About the Diploma in Front Office Management

The Diploma in Front Office Management is the College's fastest route into hotel reception and guest-facing work. It exists for students who want to be employable in about a year rather than spend three years covering every department.

Everything in the programme is chosen for whether it appears in the job. Students learn the reservation cycle end to end, how to take and amend a booking, how to check a guest in and out cleanly, how to raise and settle a bill, and how to work the property management software a hotel actually uses. The training is practical and repetitive by design, because speed and accuracy at a desk come from repetition, not from theory.

The second half of the diploma concentrates on the guest rather than the system. Telephone manner, desk etiquette, handling a queue without losing composure, dealing with a complaint at the point it is made, and the grooming and presentation standards front-of-house work requires. Spoken English is practised throughout, since it is usually the single biggest factor in whether a candidate is hired at the desk.

Students complete structured industry training as part of the diploma, so they finish with real desk hours behind them. For many, this is the qualification that gets them into a hotel; several go on to add the postgraduate front office programme later while already working.
